Farm in London

London for me is a city with countless (free!) museums, street art performance and office people in white shirts, well-fitted suits and freshly polished shoes. I never thought that in all of this I could find a farm in London. Mudchute Park and Farm.

Mudchute Park

mudchute park the travelling twinsWe found Mudchute city farm and park by pure accident when we were walking from Canary Wharf towards Greenwich. Instead of walking as Google Map directed us we decided to take a shortcut through Mudchute Park, and when we saw horses … we already knew that this was the kind of shortcut which would take us much longer.
The park itself has loads of fat, friendly squirrels which loved playing peekaboo with the girls.

Animals in the Mudchute City Farm

Feeding chickens with green grass

There are all kinds of animals at the farm. They have horses, sheep, pigs, lamas, geese, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs and many more. Our favourites were hens and ducks which loved to be fed with green grass.

But the girls paid most attention to the white pig. They caressed its body and ears. Surprisingly we learned that pig ears are very soft and the hair on their bodies very rough. It was probably the closest the girls have been to pigs beside the bacon on their plate – I’m sorry all my vegan friends; we don’t eat much meat but we love bacon! Otherwise, their closest encounters were being chased by a pig in Sri Lanka and by a wild boar in Borneo.

Mudchute Kitchen – Cafe

Before we left, we had a snack in the Mudchute Kitchen which is really popular and we had to wait in a long queue to get a delicious gluten-free meal.

Mudchute Opening Hours

Mudchute is free to enter and it’s open daily from 9am to 5pm. It’s a great place for kids of all ages.

Mudchute – How to Get There

Mudchute is located on the Isle of Dogs (E14 3HP). You can get there by walking either from Canary Wharf or from Greenwich (pedestrian tunnel under the Thames). Close to the farm is DLR station. Or by bus D3,D6 or 135 towards Crossharbour the bus stop is next to ASDA supermarket.
I think that the best option would be to walk if you are visiting Canary Wharf or Greenwich Park

London has Everything Including a Farm

And again London proved to me that it has something for everyone including a farm. If you are in London with kids you should visit Mudchute farm and then go to see the Cutty Sark and the Maritime Museum in Greenwich which is one of the best free museums to visit in London.
